- Expect changes somewhere 40-55 years of age – 2nd adulthood – like male menopause.
- Affects all aspects of life (physical, psychological, spiritual, relational)
- Some men many not feel needed (kids are grown, house is paid for, etc.) – so it’s essential to have a purpose.
- Physical changes = loss of muscle tone, wt. gain in belly, gray hair, decreased digestion
- Efficiency in changing protein into muscle is diminished, therefore essential to cut down on animal protein, and
convert 1/3 of protein intake per day to soy protein.
- Not all soys are equal. Shaklee soy has live enzymes to help digest itself. Better for our body!
- Not to worry about effects of soy if it’s from Shaklee. Dr. Brouse’s son is an ultra-marathoner, and has been on
Shaklee soy protein since he was weaned.
- May need naps – good sleep is essential. Allows adrenal glands to catch up, esp. with stress.
- Download free app called Sleep Time, to analyze the quality of your sleep.
- Must eat LOTS of fresh fruits and raw veggies.
- All men should be aware of xenoestrogens – found in plastics, petroleum bi-products, glues, resins, bug sprays,
etc. that will “feminize” a man, and do serious damage. Ex. is walleye population in Wisconsin, where male fish
are being found with egg sacs, since SMALL amounts of pesticides and chemicals (xenoestrogens) can create
harmful situations in fish and humans.
- Must get plenty of Vitamin D! Testosterone sensitivity affected by chemicals (see above) and Vita-D deficiency.
- Ask your doctor for a Vita-D test, AND a male hormone panel test (saliva test). This test will show levels of
testosterone, in ratio to dihydrotestosterone, which are the oxidized (old) form of testosterone (like old tires on a
car…junky). It’s why we need to supplement with antioxidants (like Vita-C, and Vita-E), to prevent the oxidation
(conversion), because the dihydrotestosterone can lead to inflammation in the prostate.
- Adrenal glands, which regulate stress, trumps our thyroid gland under moments of stress, so testosterone can’t
be formed. Therefore, best way to keep testosterone levels high is to avoid stress.
- Erectile Dysfunction (E.D.) – stress has a HUGE impact. First step is to take a vacation for 3-4 days (ie. get away
from all stress). That normally aids it. Then you know if it’s stress related. Can use Shaklee Stress Relief
Complex.
- If not, make sure to have the male hormone panel done, because testosterone revs up the production of nitric
oxide in the body, which directly causes the blood to flow through the reproductive organs. Prescription meds can
help temporarily (like Viagra, etc.), but can have serious side effects.
- Testosterone shots can help, but look for health ways to build up the testosterone, as well.
- For E.D., need adequate amounts of Shaklee protein, which contains the amino acid arginine, which converts to
nitric oxide.
- For E.D., back off fried foods, sugar and alcohol, which directly depletes nitric oxide.
- For E.D., can try herbals, such as ginseng, Echinacea, or Shaklee Stress Relief Complex.
